Dear Mr. VP,
I hear you went to church yesterday. (Well, obviously. I’m sure you don’t miss weeks.)
“I stand today as your Pastor to vehemently denounce and reject any such characterizations of the nations of Africa and of our brothers and sisters in Haiti,” said Pastor Dr. Maurice Watson of the Metropolitan Baptist Church, preaching to a congregation that included you.
“The Vice President reportedly became visibly red-faced at times throughout the speech.”
Sometimes, my face gets red because I’m angry. Sometimes, my face gets red because I’m embarrassed.
I hope you were embarrassed. I hope you were squirming inside. Because you should be embarrassed, to set foot in a historically Black church, having made no comment in the previous week on our president’s racist “shithole” tirade.
Dr. Maurice Watson: this week’s hero.
